My Scar is Sexy™ was birthed, 
Out of an inescapable moment. 
Cornered, 
Forced to see myself.

Nineteen years old.  
Just survived Pancreatic Cancer.  
Five organs removed. 
And he said,
”Who’s going to love you with a thirteen inch scar across your body?”

I gasped. 
In the silence of my breath,
My thoughts,
Negotiating with each other.

”Who IS going to me love with a thirteen inch scar across my body?
You believe him?
No Christina, you don’t believe him, do you?
Maybe?
What do you mean maybe?”

And there I was.
Unable to hide,
For a split moment,
Cornered.
Forced to witness my truth.

I had a choice.
To stay, meant I believed him.
To leave, meant I didn’t.
I left.
And vowed to become the woman who didn’t believe the statement.

It took years.
Of owning my identity.
Owning my thoughts.
Those tricky thoughts.
