One word. One question that changed my life.
“Why?”
I started to become curious,
About “Why” I believed things.
Truths.
Opinions.
Thoughts, that I had.
Not only about myself,
But the world I co-existed in.
I challenged myself.
To ask, “Why?”

So, for a year,
For every thought I had,
I asked, “Why?”

”Why did you have that thought?”
And then I got an answer.
So, I asked, “Why?” again.
And again.
And again.
Until I got to the core,
And the reason was usually vulnerable.
Difficult to hear.
The truth, quite frankly.
And I knew it was the truth,
Because I didn’t have an impulse to ask why again.
Because somedays it felt like it gutted me.

Those reasons.
Shaped my belief system.
My opinions.
My thoughts.
And I started to discover,
That these thoughts were birthed out of scars.
Birthed out of shame.

Overtime I saw the connected scar tissue,
Between scars and reactions.
Between scars and choices.
And that, I was very curious about.
Because who was making the choices?
Me or my scars?

Healing shame,
Is a privilege to meeting ourselves.

Try it.
For one week ask, “Why?”
Be curious about what you discover.
